The Tale of Constellations
2013 | mixed media installation | dimension variable
Esplanade-Theatre of Street Cones, Singapore
1 Mar - 7 Apr 2013 (n conjunction with Mosaic Music Festival 2013)

“Freed from the boundaries of time and space, I co-ordinate any and all points of universe, wherever I want them to be. My way leads towards the creation of a fresh perception of the world. Thus I explain in a new way the world unknown to you.”—Dziga Vertov

The Tale of Constellations, inspired by astronomical constellations and urban construction is an imaginative landscape constructed using complex structures of coloured sticks and wires. The act of looking up to the space reminisces the way we stare at the stars at the night sky, evoking a sense of wonder and imagining a life of an unknown civilization inhabit in floating cities in another universe.

Background Playground exhibition

The 2nd show of Make Space Initiative pilot pedagogical program, Background Playground featuring Rubin Hashim, Bridget Tay and Pyus Zhang, is about the process based studio practice of today. It is a righteous attempt to highlight not just the importance of the studio process in contemporary art, but also the significance of the viewer’s engagement with it.

Exhibition organized by: Make Space Initiative Make Space Initiative is one ambitious movement for two groups of people - the artist and the audience. Focusing on the proliferation of contemporary art, critical thinking and striking relationships between the artists and the audience, we hope to contribute to the dynamism of local visual arts culture through education and support.

*This project took off with the support from Pocket Rocket

"Drawing is like taking a line for a walk"
– Paul Klee

The quote by Paul Klee inspired me literally to explore the idea of taking the line for a walk. In this project I explore the boundary between drawing and sculpture. I attempt to create a connection between the two mediums by combining its various elements and principles such as line as line work, color, visual representation, space and rhythm.

Bali is My Life - The Travelogue project

Fascinated with the figurative sculpture, crafts, and shadow puppet from the observation during Bali trip in February 2011, in this project, I am presenting a new way of looking shadow puppet which incorporates traditional culture aesthetic and value with contemporary theme and approach by creating self expression of own imagination characters that originated from the inspiration and experiences in Bali trip.
The way of performing the puppets is similar play with the string puppet and shadow puppet (wayang kulit) with showing the aesthetic in front of the screen and engages the viewers’ attention. The works are created to bring the notion of narrative and storytelling through the artist and artworks.
